At the Chiropractor
A small conversation I had that made me remember that running so much is not the norm. Me: My back feels a little off since my run last weekend. Chiropractor: Oh, what kind of run was it? A long run? M: Yup C: So, like 2… 3 miles? M: Umm, 3 hours. C: Oh. I got my neck and back adjusted. Spine feels all weird now, but I’m going to skip out on the run tonight to let my spine...

Chuckanut 50k
I just signed up for my 2nd ultra - Chuckanut 50k. Registrations opened this morning and the 500 spots filled up in 1 hr and 15 minutes. Amazing! Kind of crazy too, since the race is only 10 weeks away. So everyone that signed up has already been training - none of this, I’ll sign up and then train later, NO, start running and if you are not broken by registration, then you can sign up. ...

I knew I wasn’t weird when I would say things like, “6 mile sandwich, yum!”.  Although, we wouldn’t need this if people would just educate themselves a little more.

Spring Trail Races
I’m currently trying to find a trail race to do in the spring. I actually found one that was really interesting, but I decided to sleep on it. The next day, after thinking over logistics - travel time, will I need a hotel, what food to bring etc, the race was sold out. That is the unfortunate side of trail races, most are pretty small.  For now, I am looking at three races, two marathons...

PR in the 1/2 Marathon
This morning I participated in the Seattle Ghost 1/2 Marathon and managed to achieve a new PR. From start to finished, I ran the 13.1 miles in 2:00:22, a 9:11 pace. Normally I would be ecstatic with the PR, but I had my heart set on breaking 2 hrs and as you can see I missed it by 23 seconds. If my pace was just 2 seconds faster I would have been able to get that. I was just so close.  I’ve...

Joram - Quadzilla is this weekend, four marathons in four days… crazy, maybe someday I’ll do that… someday… maybe…. John - I’ll do that in one day.  **** John plans on doing a 100 mile race in the near future.

Running with Chrissie Wellington
Me with Chrissie. 4-time Kona Ironman winner Chrissie Wellington was in Seattle and she hosted a fun run around Greenlake earlier this morning. My friend John and I decided to join in. Being the elitist runners that we are (ha!) we ran the 2+ miles to the lake from his house and met up with the group there. After a brief talk and some pics for Brooks running, we ran around the lake. There was a...

There are 16 cups in a gallon and a gallon of water weights about 8 lbs*. *8.35lbs to be more precise A way to see to if you’re hydrated is to weigh yourself. If you’re down 1 lb after a hard workout, then you need to drink 2 cups of water. Down 2 lbs, drink 4. Down 3, drink 6. Etc, etc, etc. Just multiply the #of lbs by 2 to get the # of cups.

A tree falls in the woods...
If a runner runs 1000+ miles in a year, but doesn’t post it, did it really happen? I broke 1000 miles running earlier this month, but have been too lazy to post it. I’ve tried to get this achievement in the past two years, but have fallen short because of a car accident (2009) and a pancreas problem which ended with an ER visit (2010). I finally got to the 4 digits and with plenty of time in the...

A couple weeks ago, I was feeling down. My runs hasn’t been going as well as I would like. I wasn’t going fast enough, I wasn’t running fast enough, I was just not all there. Then suddenly I get a message from Deanne, an old friend from college; She has taken an interest in running and wanted some advise. Like any good runner, I introduced her to the couch to 5k. Then a week...

Another week in the books. I had managed to get two interval runs this week and two short runs in the Nike Free. Both of which, I hope to improve my speed. Legs are still feeling pretty beat up after running with the Free, so I won’t build up on the distance on them yet. I’ll probably keep it around 3 miles or less for a couple more weeks before adding another mile. I wanted to do my...

I got myself some new shoes this week. I’m trying out the Nike Free Run+ 2. It is a minimalist shoes, so I have to slowly implement it into my runs. I spent Friday wearing it around and then ran a shorter distance on Sunday. So far, they have felt pretty good on my feet. They initially felt tight, but after breaking them in for a bit, they have started to feel better. As for my training, it...

Aug 8 - 14
After my last race on July 30th, I decided to take some time off from running and give my legs some rest. I rested four days -_- With a brief break, I slowly got back into running. I started out with some easy runs, but I am now going to implement much more intervals into my running program. I want to get a lot faster. I managed to run a 7:09 mile in my last race and that inspired me to run a...

Fall Races 2011
I’m currently signed up for two races in the fall - Shuck n’ Run 5k & Gladiator Rock n Run. Both are 5ks, but the Gladiator will have obstacles. I’m not too worried about the distances, but I do want to get a PR for the 5k. I guess much more interval runs will be in my immediate future. Besides these two races, I am also considering two half marathons in November. I’m...

regainingmymoxy replied to your photoset: Warrior Dash action shots! One word: AWESOME. To fun! (please say you dressed up for this - that this is not how you normally dress…. ….if it is - that is ok too!) Of course not. I dressed up as Macho Man Randy Savage to honor him. I originally wanted to dress up as the Ultimate Warrior, but when Macho Man passed away, I decided to go with him instead....

Ocean Shores 10k
Just finished the 2nd annual Fat boy run. My friend Charlie invited several of the former linemen from high school and sadly only two of us showed up - Charlie and me. The race had three distances, 1/2 marathon, 10k and a 5k. We only signed up for the 10k. It was a nice race. A very flat course and it it even had us run onto the beach. Charlie and I took 1st and 2nd on our age group (he...
